The LMRF is an independent center for learning on Local Economic Development through Monitoring and Research.
MISSION STATEMENT
To enhance, through learning, monitoring and research, the performance of service providers, intermediate organizations and private sector organizations (including informal producer groups, branch organizations, commodity based organizations, study groups, industrial boards, cooperatives) that influence local economic development in KwaZulu-Natal.
VISION
To be an Independent, not-for-profit, Centre that generates, compiles and shares knowledge on LED in KZN and beyond, through innovative and participatory approaches.
LMRF has it roots in the Gijima Programme, works closely with the Department of Economic Development and is EU funded. However, it will evolve into an independent knowledge centre for LED learning in KZN change from a fully public funded unit in 2006 to a mixed funded unit in 2009 and will be accountable to its own governing body, with representatives from the public, NGO and private sectors and from academic and other interest groups.
